I reviewed Natalie Cole’s Spanish-language album,”En Español”, in the Sunday Times [£]. Not the kind of record that will appeal to world music purists, of course, but a respectable effort all the same. Her version of “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás” is certainly worth hearing. No one, though, matches the Buena Vista Social Club’s Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo, performing together on the grand old man’s valedictory recording, “Mi Sueño”, released in 2006. Roberto Fonseca, who is now building quite a solo career for himself, provides the accompaniment.
