Discovered in a secondhand bookshop: a stash of Trollopes in pristine condition. In the end I bought just one of the lesser-known titles, The American Senator, which has started very promisingly. Over the years I’ve read about 25 of the novels  – I had a serious addiction back in the 80s – but that still  leaves a couple of dozen to be polished off. With the Barchester Chronicles  being serialized on Radio 4, could it be that we’re entering another mini-revival? I hope so. I mean, is there a better account of financial chicanery and money-grubbing than The Way We Live Now?
