Boris Johnson’s chutzpah, pt 239

Perhaps he thinks words can be dressed up to mean anything at all.  Here he is being  interviewed  [£] by Alice Thomson and Rachel Sylvester:

Although he went to Eton and Oxford, Mr Johnson is surprisingly classless, adored by taxi drivers as well as Tory donors. “What’s the normal formula? It doesn’t matter where you come from as long as you know where you are going. I am a scholarship boy. I was educated by the state — if Henry VI [the founder of Eton] is not an emanation of the state I don’t know what is — and I went to Primrose Hill Primary School.
