Behind the facade

I spent a couple of hours wandering around Bath – my home town – yesterday. It’s always fun to get a glimpse of the other side of Pulteney Bridge. By the weir at the front, there’s an open-air platform that was supposed to become a cafe. It’s been there forty years, ever since the weir was re-designed as part of the flood prevention scheme, and it’s always been empty, as far as I recall. I’m not sure why. It’s been there so long it’s part of the landscape now. Like that ugly brick box, the Hilton Hotel.
